This Is Charlie

Charlie came to us several years ago when he was just a tiny little kitten. He quickly endeared himself to us by scratching furniture, clamping onto ankles, climbing pantlegs and using the bathtub as his litter box. Of course the fact that he was the cutest kitten in the universe didn't hurt his chances of becoming one of the family. As punishment for removing certain parts of his anatomy he began to find ways to make sure you knew he was around. Shredded bits of Kleenex, catnip mice leaking flakes of their innards, curios knocked off their perch, paw prints on window sills... well you get the picture. We certainly have had our fun, at his expense, for Charlie loves to chase the beam of light from a flashlight and/or laser light. We have had him running in circles, or trying to climb up the wall after the light and honestly it was pretty funny to watch! Overall, Charlie grew into a wonderful adult cat, complete with personality, and has learned to tolerate us. He doesn't mind if we complain that he weighs too much (16 lbs) when he jumps up into our laps, nor does he mind the permanent removal of all his "presents" that he leaves on the back steps for us. And I can't think of any reason why I should let him share my hammock on those warm summer afternoons, but I do.

Didn't Know There Was A Song!

Today I googled my website name to see if and where it would pop up on the list.... Yes I'm "that way". Look what I found! I couldn't resist pasting the lyrics to the song. Does anyone remember this? I have never heard of it. I wish I could find a audio clip ... hmmmm give me some time....

Artist: Burl Ives
Title: The lollipop tree

One fine day in early spring
I play a funny trick
Out in the yard behind our house
I planted a lollipop stick
And everyday I watered it well
And watched it carefully
I hoped one day that stick would grow
To be a lollipop tree

Aha-ha Oh-ho-ho
What a sight to see
Me and my lollipop, lollipop, lolly, lolly, lollipop tree

Remember When....

It's days like these (the snow is falling, the air is cold and raw)that I find myself daydreaming of summer, remembering all the fun I had over the past few summers. I spent countless hours on a warm sunny beach with a fishing pole knee deep in the ocean waters. Sometimes I walked through the conservation areas, deep into the cool woods on a hot afternoon. In the evening hours after the sun had set, my friends and I would light a bonfire out on Sandy Neck beach. We'd sit, talking and laughing about everything and anything. Mostly, I miss my hammock! I don't think there is anything better than lying in a comfortable hammock, in the shade of a giant oak tree, peering up through half closed eyes into the green and blue above. A true treasure! Seeing the yard in full bloom; the yellow of the daffodils, the pink of the wild roses, purple violets and the many shades of green in the ivy, the blades of grass, the leaves on the trees. The familiar sound of lawnmowers and thunderstorms and lightning bugs... guess I've got the fever early this year! Well, time to put on the 3 layers of clothes, gloves, scarf, boots... grab the chocolate awaits a job well done!

A Sense of Balance

Sometimes the stresses of every day living build up and spill forth in the form of impatience, arrogance, irritability, depression, laziness, well... you get the picture. Stress is the SIXTH leading cause of death in the United States.

Here are some things that work for me... What do you do?

Take a deep breath....
Calgon take me away...
A warm sunny place....
The smell of a fresh baked pie in the oven...
Flannel sheets on a cold night...
A sky full of sunset colors spread across the water...
Taking a trip down memory lane with an old friend...
A walk on the beach...

Here's hoping you have a "less stress" day!
